Joining of CFRT/Steel Hybrid Parts via Direct Pressing of Cold Formed Non-Rotational Symmetric Pin Structures

In this study, quasi-unidirectional continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastics (CFRTs) are joined with metal sheets via cold formed cylindrical, elliptical and polygonal pin structures which directly pressed into the CFRT component after local infrared heating. comparison to already available studies, unique novelty is use of non-rotational symmetric for CFRT/metal hybrid joining. Thus, a variation in orientation as well pins’ relation sample conducted. The created samples consequently mechanically tested single lap shear experiments quasi-static state. Finally, failure behavior investigated help microscopic images detailed photographs. tests, it could be shown that lead an increase maximum testing forces up 74% when compared cylindrical pins.
